A disturbance occurred in La Porte's Morgan's Landing-Taylor Morrison subdivision when shots were fired, leaving a homeowner injured while his family was nearby. The incident took place around 6:20 a.m. on Corbin Crest Trail, where police report that the homeowner encountered the shooter in or near his garage. At least two shots were fired, with one striking the homeowner in the neck, as reported by KHOU.
The shooter was apprehended by La Porte Police after failing to follow commands, which led officers to tackle him to the ground. He was holding an object in each hand, and authorities later discovered what appeared to be a gun in his waistband. Despite the initial confusion, the situation was eventually controlled, as stated by La Porte Police Chief John Krueger. He also referenced video footage showing the suspect's car moving between houses in a suspicious manner before the attack. According to Click2Houston, the suspect, now in custody at Harris County Jail, may have mistaken the homeowner's vehicle for that of his ex-girlfriend, leading to the confrontation.
The police's quick response allowed them to neutralize the threat posed by the still-unnamed suspect. The homeowner's condition remains unknown as he was airlifted to a local hospital. The woman and child inside were unharmed during the incident.
More details are expected to emerge as the story develops. Police continue their investigation, supported by eyewitness accounts and security footage.
