The National Weather Service reports that trade winds will strengthen as a high-pressure system settles north of Honolulu. Today will remain mostly dry, with light rainfall expected over windward areas and the Big Island’s Kona region. More frequent showers are expected on Tuesday through the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service.
Trade winds will strengthen as a high-pressure system moves west, bringing gusty conditions. "Ridging aloft will likely maintain a near 5 to 6k ft inversion," limiting rain to windward areas. Humidity will rise midweek as moisture moves in from the east, but strong trades will help disperse haze near Halemaumau Crater. A weakening front to the north will not directly impact the islands, but a strong surface high will keep breezy conditions. "Residual moisture tied to the diffuse frontal boundary north of the state will sag south southeastward toward the state and likely provide enough fuel to increase smaller island precipitation chances Tuesday," with potential for additional rainfall later in the week, mainly for windward Big Island and Maui, as reported by the National Weather Service.
"High pressure building to near 1037 mb N of the islands will lead to strengthening trade winds today and tonight, with fresh to near gale-force winds likely remaining into next weekend." A Small Craft Advisory begins at noon for all waters, and a High Surf Advisory is in effect from noon until 6 PM HST on Tuesday for northern and western shores, including Oahu’s North Shore and Ni'ihau’s leeward side. Eastern shores will see choppy waves. Check the National Weather Service for updates.
