The Honolulu Police Department reported that the enforcement action came after pedestrians were nearly struck by a juvenile performing stunts on an e-bike. The incident, which unfolded yesterday afternoon, led to multiple citations being issued for e-bike-related violations.
The situation escalated when a 14-year-old reportedly refused to dismount his e-bike and proceeded to shove an officer, resisting arrest. According to a Facebook post from Honolulu Police Department's official site, the teen was not only cited for e-bike violations but also arrested for refusing to stop a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and harassing a police officer. In an unfortunate turn of events, the suspect suffered self-inflicted injuries while waiting to be transported and received medical attention for injuries deemed non-life-threatening.
The Honolulu Police Department is using this incident to encourage the community to help protect their children, or "keiki." They emphasize the importance of following e-bike laws to avoid dangerous situations. The department is especially calling on parents and adults to supervise young riders and raise awareness.
