Earlier today, tragedy struck outside Latina's Bar in southeast Houston when a doorman was fatally shot following a confrontation with a patron. KHOU reports that the incident occurred at approximately 1:40 a.m. near Telephone Road and Fairway Drive. The Houston Police Department relayed that after an initial argument with the doorman, the patron momentarily stepped away only to return armed and begin to indiscriminately open fire indiscriminately, critically hitting the doorman and inadvertently wounding a bystander.
The doorman, whose identity has yet to be released, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Houston Fire Department. The bystander, caught in the crossfire and injured in the leg, was transported to a hospital, in which authorities anticipate will fully recover. As of now, the police are on the hunt to quickly identify and apprehend the suspect, described as a Hispanic male in his early twenties with a short buzz cut, who was last seen heading north on Telephone Road, according to KHOU.
Meanwhile, FOX26 adds detail on the events of that night, noting that the Houston Police officers responded to the shooting just after 1:30 a.m. in the 4900 block of Telephone Rd. They learned upon arrival that the doorman had been in a scuffle with the assailant at the bar. "The suspect stepped back and pulled out a gun and shot the doorman," according to FOX26. A second victim, unfortunately standing in the background, was also hit in the leg amidst the chaos.
