Three Houston firefighters are currently recovering after a suspected drunk driver collided with their fire engine, which was stationed at the scene of an earlier crash on the East Freeway. The firefighters were inside the vehicle when it was rear-ended by the driver, causing undisclosed injuries to them, as per information from Click2Houston. Following the incident, the driver involved was arrested, though the specific charges they may face have not yet been clarified.
It was reported by KHOU that the crash occurred early Saturday morning on the East Freeway near the East Loop, where the fire engine was actively engaged in safeguarding the site of another accident. The firefighters sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, alongside the motorist who was also reported to have sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The condition of the Houston firefighters is still unknown, and the Houston Police Department has not disclosed what charges the driver may face. However, a DWI unit was present at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation, as per the KHOU.
