A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that injured five people at a bar on Raleigh Street earlier this month. Kendrick Montgomery, 21, faces charges of aggravated assault – mass shooting, as reported by the City of Houston News. The violent incident occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. on March 2, at the address 3333 Raleigh Street.
According to the City of Houston news release, three men and two women were the victims of the shooting. Ages of the individuals span from 31 to 58 years old. The Houston Police Department's Major Assaults Division, under Sergeant J. Cimeni, detailed the events, stating, "Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at a bar at the above address and located five adult gunshot victims." Additionally, authorities conveyed that two victims continue to recuperate in the hospital in stable condition, while the other three have been released. The suspect reportedly used a rifle to randomly fire shots at both staff and patrons.
Investigators swiftly acted to piece together the sequence of events, which led to the identification and subsequent charging of Montgomery. Based on witness accounts, an unknown male in a white sedan pulled up in front of the bar before emerging with a rifle. "The male got out of the vehicle with a rifle and fired multiple shots at staff members and customers near the front door," the Houston Police Department statement obtained by the City of Houston News detailed. After the shooting, the suspect is said to have fled the scene.
With collaborative effort, the arrest of Montgomery was successfully carried out on March 7 by Houston Police Department SWAT, South Central and Southeast Patrol Crime Suppression Teams, and agents with the FBI Houston Office. He has since been booked into the Harris County Jail. A provided booking photo of Montgomery exists as a part of the City of Houston News press release for the public and media. This case is an ongoing investigation under the 232nd State District Court, as Montgomery awaits court proceedings for the charges against him.
