A man has been taken into custody and faces murder charges following the death of another man on Manning Lane, Houston, police said. The incident unfolded yesterday afternoon, leaving a 28-year-old man dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Juan Antonio Meza Cruz, 31, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the shooting. The altercation occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. at a residence located at 7512 Manning Lane. According to the City of Houston's official news release, officers were dispatched to the scene after reports of a shooting and found to discover the victim unresponsive in the driveway of the home.
The Houston Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced the man deceased. His identity is still pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Witnesses at the scene indicated that Meza Cruz shot the victim, who is believed to be his brother, after an argument escalated. Investigators quickly acted to track down Meza Cruz and made the arrest shortly after.
Information regarding Meza Cruz’s arrest was revealed, stating that officers gathered details on his location and apprehended him shortly after. This followed the efforts of Sgt. W. Dunn and Detective L. Brooks from the HPD Homicide Division, who interviewed witnesses and reconstructed the events leading to the fatal confrontation. Meza Cruz was later booked into the Harris County Jail, according to a news release from the City of Houston.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is handling the case as it moves through the legal process. Meza Cruz is currently awaiting trial in the 351st State District Court.
