
A man has been charged in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in Houston, leaving another man dead after an apparent altercation. The suspect, identified as Gustarvo Vargas, also known as Ivan Emmanuelli, 48, is facing murder charges filed in the 177th State District Court. The Houston Police Department released a booking photo of Vargas following the incident.
The stabbing took place on Sunday, around 8:25 p.m. at 3900 Maggie Street. Officers responding to the scene found the victim, later identified as 42-year-old Godfrey Whiting, unresponsive with a stab wound. He had reportedly crashed his vehicle into a ditch at the location. HPD Homicide Division Detectives D. Davis and C. Davidson were dispatched to investigate the case. Whiting was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where, despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced deceased.
According to detectives, surveillance footage and witness testimony efficiently led them to identify Vargas as the suspect. He was arrested and charged on Tuesday. The investigation into the events that led up to the stabbing is ongoing. The HPD Homicide Division encouraged anyone with additional information to step forward to assist in the case.
