A suspect has been detained in relation to a homicide that took place at an apartment complex on Cook Road, where a man was found with a fatal gunshot wound yesterday morning, the Houston Police Department reported. Seventeen-year-old Fernando Amaya is now facing charges including murder, aggravated assault of a family member, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as outlined by the 488th State District Court.
While Amaya is in custody, the investigation is ongoing as authorities are still on the lookout for a second male suspect. The unidentified accomplice is believed to have been involved in the incident that unfolded around 12:55 a.m. At the scene, officers discovered one male victim deceased and another injured within an apartment at the 7500 Cook Road address. The wounded individual was promptly taken to an area hospital for medical care, with the Harris County District Attorney's Office engaging in the matter shortly after Amaya's arrest.
Detectives A. Finlay and B. Stephens of the HPD Homicide Division are leading the inquiry into this violent act. According to the official report, they gathered evidence and witness testimonies that pinned Amaya to the scene. It is determined that Amaya and the second suspect arrived and departed in an unidentified white SUV. Amaya's apprehension occurred later the same morning at a relative's home, whereupon the charges were filed against him.
