A high-speed pursuit unfolded in South Nashville last Saturday, resulting in the arrest of an illegal street racer who also had a firearm in his possession. Reports from WSMV detailed that Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) officers attempted to halt 27-year-old Frank Eduardo Reyes-Borrayo, driving a black Dodge Charger, at the intersection of Nolensville Pike and Harding Place. Despite the officers' efforts, Reyes-Borrayo fled the scene, initiating a high-speed chase.
During the incident, the MNPD helicopter was able to maintain visual contact with the suspect's vehicle, allowing ground units to respond quickly. According to The Tennessean, Reyes-Borrayo was observed "traveling at 100 miles per hour and passing other vehicles in center turn lanes to evade officers." Following the second attempt to stop Reyes-Borrayo on Edmondson Pike near Old Hickory Boulevard, he sped off once more but was eventually taken into custody on Murfreesboro Pike after he backed his vehicle into a parking space.
Upon his arrest, a semi-automatic Taurus 9mm handgun was discovered in the driver's side door. Reyes-Borrayo, who is not a U.S. citizen, as per law enforcement, was not authorized to carry a firearm. The Tennessean added that he was additionally driving without a valid driver's license. Reyes-Borrayo is currently facing charges of felony reckless endangerment, unauthorized firearm possession, and two counts of evading arrest, with a set bond of $27,000.
Furthermore, Reyes-Borrayo's actions not only put his life at risk but also endangered the lives of three passengers in the car and other drivers on the road. According to FOX 17, he was "charged with felony reckless endangerment, not having a driver’s license, unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of evading arrest." His bond remains at $27,000, but due to an ICE detainer, he is not eligible for release.
