Investigation Underway After Bruised 3-Year-Old Pronounced Dead at Brooklyn Hospital, NYPD Seeks Two Individuals

The death of a 3-year-old boy is currently under investigation after he was brought to a hospital in Brooklyn with bruises and later pronounced dead. According to the NYPD, the incident occurred yesterday when two unidentified individuals left the child at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and then fled the scene. The NYPD was called to the hospital at about 11:30 a.m., where they discovered the child unresponsive, as detailed by Gothamist.

Officials have not yet been able to publicly identify the child or the two individuals who left him at the hospital. An investigation seeks to quickly determine not just the nature of the boy's injuries but also to ascertain the relationship between him and his presumably known, yet unidentified, companions. Sources told CBS News New York that surveillance footage is a key element of the NYPD's inquiry, as it could help in identifying the couple and the vehicle they used to hastily depart the medical facility.

The couple's departure from the hospital, after leaving the child with a doctor, was abrupt enough to draw attention from a security guard, prompting the 911 call. Hospital staff have not offered comments on the case, standing by for the city's medical examiner's office to provide an official cause of death, according to Gothamist.
