Authorities in Pasadena are currently investigating a death that has raised questions and prompted a police inquiry. The incident occurred on Rio Grande Street near El Molino Avenue, after reports of a car crash and a possible shooting came in just after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival at the scene, police found a man deceased in a crashed vehicle from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
As details are still emerging, eyewitness accounts have become a valuable source of information for police. Mario Moran, a witness, recounted the events to NBC Los Angeles, stating, "One of the neighbors came out and said that somebody's injured and then that's when I got closer, and I started calling 911 and I saw a bullet wound in his shoulder." Moran also noted the efforts of a police officer who attempted CPR for several minutes while neighbors gathered to lend support. Yet, despite these actions, no lifesaving outcome was to be had.
The vehicle, a white car, was discovered on the sidewalk with its wheels spinning, having collided against what looks to be a resident’s front yard retaining wall. This scene, captured by Sky5 aerial footage, was shared by KTLA in their report on the incident. A witness told KTLA that he observed the vehicle speeding before the crash and approached the car along with another resident to find the victim with a gunshot wound. The age of the victim was estimated to be between 18 and 19 years old.
Further complicating the investigation are the unclear circumstances of the victim's fatal injury. As authorities continue to piece together the sequence of events that led to the death, the Pasadena Police Department has yet to confirm whether this was indeed a shooting. The body, unidentified at the moment, was found outside of the crashed car, with both the driver's side and passenger's side doors ajar. This information came from a report by CBS News Los Angeles, highlighting the ongoing nature of this investigation.
No arrests have been made with regard to the incident as of yet. The case continues to develop with the Pasadena Police Department on the lookout for any leads or information that can shed light upon this tragic and murky series of events.
