A fatal car accident on Interstate 295 claimed the life of a 36-year-old Jacksonville man and left a 25-year-old Jacksonville woman in critical condition yesterday afternoon.
Florida Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred around 4:27 p.m. as the woman, who was driving, approached the exit ramp for Interstate 10 East. The driver "failed to maintain her lane while navigating the curve," which led to the vehicle rotating, and the back of it struck a tree, First Coast News reported. The man, who was a passenger in the sedan, was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to a News4JAX article, the woman was driving north on I-295 when she lost control of the vehicle. The car then hit a tree as she was traversing the curve leading to the I-10 exit ramp.
The identities of the individuals involved have not been released by the FHP, but additional information concerning the incident was disseminated, including that the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, as stated in a news release obtained by Action News Jax. The woman was transported to the hospital and, at the time of publication, she remains in critical condition.
