The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) recently announced the closure of a murder case from 2023 with the arrest of two individuals. According to a social media post by the JSO, Xavier Slater, 24, and Lucious Brown, 37, were taken into custody in connection with the death of 33-year-old Edwin Mack, whose body was discovered in a burnt vehicle on Lenox Avenue in May last year.
Having been charged with Murder since January 2024, Slater was already in JSO's custody when Brown was re-arrested for his alleged involvement in the crime. Brown, already behind bars for Attempted Armed Robbery, faced additional charges of Murder and Arson related to Mack's death. "No matter how many days, weeks, months or years pass, our detectives do not give up on getting the answers victims’ loved ones deserve," the JSO stated, committing to a relentless pursuit of justice on behalf of Mack's family.
The JSO credited their Homicide Unit with diligent work in piecing together the case, which led to the identification of Slater and Brown as the prime suspects responsible for the seemingly callous offense.
