The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office recently provided an update on an officer-involved shooting that unfolded on the evening of March 11. The altercation took place on Moose Road, part of the city's Northside district. The information released is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation delves deeper.
According to the incident briefing by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the situation escalated after officers responded to a call from a residence where Tiffany Leigh and her husband were reportedly embroiled in an argument. Leigh's husband was the one to alert authorities that his wife was armed. Arriving at the scene, officers encountered Leigh moving towards them with the firearm in hand, despite being instructed repeatedly to put the gun down. Confronted with the threat, the officers were apparently forced to swiftly return fire when Leigh started to shoot at them.
Leigh was hit by the responding gunfire, which caused her to fall and release the firearm. The officers, after securing Leigh, proceeded to administer emergency medical aid and then saw to her transportation to an area hospital where she received treatment for her gunshot wounds.
