A Jacksonville substitute teacher has been arrested following allegations she instigated a fight between students, resulting in one child suffering physical abuse. Geanene Cher'rrie White, 57, is now facing charges of child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, as News4JAX reported.
During a class on February 12, White is accused of pushing a noncompliant student into a confrontation, asking, "Who in here can beat him up?" The report detailed by First Coast News noted that after the student refused to join a small group, four students responded to White's call, allegedly attacking the victim under her watch.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), White took an active role in the violence, "ferociously" pushing the student, which led to him hitting his head on a desk. This action led to visible injuries, including a laceration behind the ear, as stated in the Action News Jax coverage of the event.
Despite the incident, when administrative staff were called into the classroom, White failed to disclose the induced fights, only suggesting that the student needed "behavioral intervention." In a statement obtained by News4JAX, White contradicted the allegations, asserting that she did not encourage any student violence but merely tried to aid the victim after two separate fights broke out in her classroom.
Geanene White, whose employment was terminated in the wake of the incident, awaits her arraignment scheduled for March 25. The name and location of the school involved remain undisclosed, with local authorities continuing to investigate the situation.
