Brentwood has officially ushered in a new chapter for its police force, with Jim Colvin taking the reins as the new Chief of Police of the Brentwood Police Department (BPD). Colvin's appointment was formally acknowledged at the Brentwood City Commission meeting earlier this week, as reported by the City of Brentwood news.
Brentwood's Mayor Mark Gorman seemed more than content to warmly welcome Colvin to his new role. "We couldn’t be more thankful to have you for our new Chief of Police," he said via the City of Brentwood website. The ceremony was notable for fusing a diverse crowd that ranged from Colvin's family to individuals he had encountered professionally, including some he had once arrested or pulled over. It appeared unity was the theme of the evening, with several former adversaries now claiming friendship with the man set to guide Brentwood's law enforcement.
Having climbed the ranks of the BPD since 2004, Colvin brings a wealth of experience to the top position. His career trajectory includes stints as a patrol sergeant, a detective, a patrol lieutenant, and a captain over the Patrol Division, leading up to his role as assistant chief of police in 2022. As chief, Colvin now oversees a department that has safeguarded the Brentwood community since 1971.
In his remarks, Colvin took the time to highlight the dedicated members of the BPD. "The men and women of the Brentwood Police Department are the ones that I want to mention last because I will reap a lot of praise for their hard work," he told the assembly. He acknowledged the officers' essential, if sometimes unnoticed, contributions, describing the variety of tasks they perform to smoothly run the department, from shift work to vehicle maintenance. According to the City of Brentwood news report, these actions form the backbone that keeps the operation running effectively.
