The Johnson City Fire Department (JCFD) is opening its doors to the community with a hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training program, an initiative to equip individuals with crucial life-saving techniques.
The move comes after a particularly well-received session conducted for nearly 70 City employees, according to the department's survey feedback, the JCFD is now set to offer this training on a quarterly basis at their Training Facility located at 2832 W. Walnut St., where they could potentially add more sessions depending on how many folks show interest and sign up.
During the training, participants will get the chance to utilize advanced Brayden CPR manikins; these devices use animated LED lights to provide immediate feedback on the efficiency of chest compressions, which is essential for stimulating blood circulation during an emergency. These trainings are a component of the department's strategy to underscore the importance of hands-only CPR—a mere two-step process of calling 911 and providing non-stop chest compressions until the professionals take over.
For those interested in learning this lifesaving skill, additional details are available by ringing up the JCFD at (423) 975-2840 or going online to register for the upcoming June course on the official website, though it's worth noting that once you've signed up, you'll have to hang tight until JCFD confirms the date and time of the training, they'll also be needing participants to sign off on a waiver before they can dive into the training.
