The picturesque shores of Kaua‘i, particularly its north-facing beaches, now bear warning signs as officials from the Ocean Safety Bureau (OSB) advise against swimming in these areas due to dangerous ocean conditions. Announced in a recent notice issued by the County of Kauai, the advisory spans from ‘Anini Beach westward, where the ocean's unrest is deemed too perilous for public recreation.
Under the vigilant surveillance of the OSB, the advisory is backed by the National Weather Service's High Surf Advisory which remains in effect through Monday evening, waves could reach heights up to 18 to 24 feet on the north-facing coasts and 14 to 18 feet on the west-facing shores – with a forecast like this, the OSB's warning is clearly not to be taken lightly.
While the signs punctuating the beaches serve as silent sentinels of the sea's volatility, officials are actively engaging with the public to ensure safety, for those seeking the latest information, the OSB has proposed two avenues: speak directly to a county lifeguard or call the Ocean Safety Bureau at 808-241-4984.
