Lahaina residents on Maui were informed that the Department of Environmental Management's Wastewater Reclamation Division has updated the Sewer Service Status for several properties. As of last Monday, 153 lots from Kenui Street to Dickenson Street, south of Honoapiʻilani Highway, are now marked "green," indicating active sewer service. This update was shared with the local community during a webinar last Wednesday, according to information obtained from the County of Maui.
DEM Director Shayne Agawa addressed residents earlier this week, providing an update on the progress. With the recent changes, approximately 90% of Lahaina's county sewer system is now operational. However, there are still a few areas that are awaiting full restoration. Agawa stated, "work on the remaining inactive areas will be completed by the end of March (Shaw Street to Dickenson Street) and by mid-April (Wahikuli Terrace)." This represents a key recovery milestone following the wildfires in August 2023, which caused significant damage to local infrastructure, leaving many without proper wastewater services for an extended period, as reported by the County of Maui.
