Las Cruces is on alert as the Officer-involved Incident Task Force investigates a police shooting that left an armed man injured this past Thursday evening. The events unfolded just before 7 P.M. on the 500 block of South Main Street, as reported by the City of Las Cruces. According to their brief account, the Las Cruces Police Department responded to calls of a man brandishing a firearm.

When police arrived at the scene, the suspect allegedly led them on a short foot chase before at least one round was fired by an officer, striking the individual. The sequence concluded the 800 block of South Main Street, where the man went to the ground and officers were able to recover a firearm nearby where he fell. The suspect was promptly detained and is currently receiving medical treatment, the severity of his injuries remains undisclosed.

The LCPD officer involved in the shooting escaped unscathed and, following standard procedures, has been placed on administrative leave while the Task Force conducts its investigation. This multi-agency collective, comprised of personnel from the New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, and New Mexico State University Police, is tasked with ensuring a thorough examination of the incident.
