Residents of East Madrid Avenue will need to adjust their schedules as the planned water outage for today, initially set to impact the stretch from Mesquite Street to Solano Drive, has been postponed. According to the City of Las Cruces, the interruption was necessary for Renegade Construction to connect a new water line to the existing system. Yet, as of 11:32 a.m. yesterday, this work has been rescheduled to an unconfirmed future date. When the work commences, those affected should be aware that they might encounter discolored water once service is restored.
The initial notification advised that discolored water might include iron, manganese, and calcium deposits. While it's not aesthetically pleasing, the city assures that the water is safe to drink. Residents may need to refrain from doing laundry until the water clears to avoid any staining from the deposits. This discoloration is expected to vanish within 24 hours of service restoration, but if it persists, the city advises running all faucets for five minutes. Should the issue remain unresolved, the residents can call the City of Las Cruces for further assistance. It is pertinent to note that affected areas might extend beyond the confines of East Madrid Avenue if water on your street is scheduled to be turned off.
The City Council District No.1 is the jurisdiction overseeing the scheduled work. For those looking for additional details or updates on the new date for the outage, the Public Works Department, Contracts Administration, can be reached at 575/528-3098. Similarly, for any after-hours concerns or inquiries, Utility Dispatch is available at 575/526-0500.
