Las Vegas drivers, be prepared for delays next week. Northbound and southbound lanes of I-11/U.S. 95 will close from Sky Canyon Park Drive to Durango Drive from 9 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday for Grand Teton Drive overpass construction.
Detours will be in place nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Northbound drivers will be rerouted from Durango Drive to El Capitan Way, Racel Street, and Sky Canyon Park Drive to rejoin I-11/U.S. 95. Southbound drivers will take Sky Canyon Park Drive to Grand Canyon Drive, Farm Road, Oso Blanca Road, and Durango Drive to get back on track, as per City of Las Vegas Bulletin.
Since March last year, Las Vegas has been working on the overpass to smooth out traffic flow in the northwest. With disruptions on Grand Teton and nearby streets, locals are no strangers to the construction dance. The project, bringing lane restrictions and some night work, is expected to last 18 months more.
The overpass project aims to build a bridge over the highway, improve nearby roads, relocate utilities, install street lighting, and create a multi-use trail connecting Ackerman Avenue to the west of U.S. 95. As part of the work, there will be several road closures, including West Grand Teton Drive at El Capitan Way and Sky Point Drive, which will become a cul-de-sac north of the bridge.
Las Vegas Paving is handling the project with a $41 million budget from the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada and the Federal Highway Administration.
