Lewisville residents with an eye for home improvement and community beautification should mark their calendars. The city's Neighborhood Services department is rolling out a series of free workshops, the first of which will delve into the details of home-repair resources and grant opportunities. Scheduled for March 11 at 6:30 p.m., this informative session will take place at the Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, located at 995 E. Valley Ridge Boulevard.
The workshops are part of an initiative supported by the "Diverse and Thriving Neighborhoods" Big Move, a cornerstone of the Lewisville 2025 vision plan. Housing three key programs, the Property Enhancement Program, Love Your Block, and the Neighborhood Enhancement Program, the city hopes to enable homeowners to give their properties and neighborhoods a significant facelift, with applications open year-round for some grants.
As the City of Lewisville's announcement reported, the Property Enhancement Program offers eligible residents a financial grant rebate for exterior home repairs. This can lead to a 50 percent matching grant rebate, maxing out at a predetermined dollar value. While Love Your Block provides a $500 reimbursable mini grant to foster community within neighborhoods. It can cover expenses ranging from neighborhood get-togethers to beautification projects like little libraries or shared planting spaces. With intentions for its residents to enhance their neighborhoods, the Neighborhood Enhancement Program offers a matching grant up to $12,500 for neighborhood groups.
According to the City of Lewisville, beyond the March workshop, the monthly educational series will continue throughout 2025. Attendees have a variety of dates to choose from, with each subsequent workshop held on a Tuesday, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and spanning several locations, including Castle Hills Community Center, Lewisville Grand Theater, Thrive, the Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, and the Lewisville Public Library. Special presentations in Hakha Chin, Spanish, and English will be available during sessions at Serve Lewisville, emphasizing the city's commitment to inclusivity.
