Honolulu's Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke is headed to the nation's capital on a mission to bolster the agricultural sector of Aloha State. From today until Wednesday, March 26, Luke will lead a delegation of Hawaiʻi's farming front-liners in what's shaping up to be an impactful 2nd Annual Hawaiʻi-USDA Policy Summit. At this gathering, state agriculture leaders will join forces with their federal counterparts to drill down on the state’s most pressing agricultural challenges and opportunities.
This year's summit aligns with a host of priorities detailed in a statement by Lt. Gov. Luke, which pointed to the significance of labeling and export regulations, biosecurity, increasing agricultural production, bolstering rural infrastructure, and the implications of the Farm Bill. These focal points underscore an ethos of sustainability and economic vigor for Hawaiʻi's farming community, as per the Office of the Governor.
Last year, Lt. Gov. Luke led Hawaiʻi's first delegation to meet with the USDA, securing federal resources for local farmers. The 2024 meeting set the stage for this year's summit, aiming to build on last year's progress and make real advancements in Hawaiʻi's agriculture.
