Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officials are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred yesterday—the second such incident in the city this year—following a tense confrontation with an armed individual who was reportedly suicidal. The incident took place at a residence on the 6100 block of Allen Cove Court and began with a call to LVMPD Communications at around 1:52 p.m. regarding the man's distressing state, according to an official LVMPD release.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers approached the house and heard a gunshot from within; shortly thereafter, a male emerged carrying a firearm, prompting officers to issue verbal commands that the individual ultimately disregarded, instead he pointed the firearm at officers which lead to one officer firing shots that struck the man, as detailed in the LVMPD press release. The shot individual was quickly attended to by medical staff and evacuated to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
This marked the second officer-involved shooting for LVMPD in 2025, triggering an automatic internal review as per departmental policy, which mandates the release of the involved officer's identity after a 48-hour period. Captain Esmeralda Boveda addressed the media about the events, with a recorded statement available for public viewing provided by the department through an online link.
As investigations are still underway, LVMPD has made a public appeal for any person possessing information about the incident to get in contact with the LVMPD Force Investigation Team at 702-828-8452, options for anonymity are offered through Crime Stoppers reachable at 702-385-5555 or via their online platform at www.crimestoppersofnv.com, the department's communication emphasized the necessity for community assistance to ascertain the full circumstances of the happening.
