A Macomb Township man is facing felony drug charges after being arrested for selling and illegally transporting marijuana in Shelby Township. Adrian Khoshnaw was taken into custody following a traffic stop by Shelby Township Police, who found nearly 120 pounds of marijuana and over $7,000 cash in his white F-150. The social media announcement from the police department detailed the successful bust by their Special Investigation Unit.
The investigation into local drug distribution began last Wednesday, leading to Khoshnaw's arrest the following day. Authorities conducted a search of his vehicle during the traffic stop at M-53 and Hall Road, where they discovered the substantial quantity of marijuana, which was deemed to have been illegally transported. In addition, the cash found was said by police to be "directly related to the sale of the marijuana on the black market," as reported by Audacy.
Following his arrest, Khoshnaw was lodged at the Shelby Township Police Department and later arraigned in 41-A District Court on charges of Felony-Controlled Substance-Delivery/Manufacturing Marijuana. During the arraignment, he was given a $10,000 personal bond. According to the Shelby Township Police Department's Facebook post, marijuana is legal in the state of Michigan, but specific regulations govern its transportation - regulations that Khoshnaw is accused of violating.
Michigan law defines the transportation of up to five kilograms of marijuana as drug trafficking, which is subject to penalties including fines and prison sentences. Khoshnaw, whose marijuana quantity exceeds this limit, may face significant legal consequences if convicted. As the state navigates the complexities of legalized marijuana within a framework of strict regulations, cases like this highlight the distinction between legal business and illegal trafficking, which Michigan authorities continue to monitor and enforce.
