The project, focused on street and utility upgrades, will kick off the week of March 31, with a temporary closure of Wisconsin Avenue ranging from 72nd Street to just west of 68th Street. Noted by the City of Wauwatosa's official website, the work is set to be carried out in phases and aims to enhance the area's infrastructure.
Phase 1 will impede traffic on Wisconsin Avenue starting March 31, although provisions will be made for local residents needing access. Soon after, 70th Street could also see blockages all the way from Wisconsin Avenue to Bluemound Road. During the heat of summer, specifically in mid-June, Phase 2 will signal the closure of the bustling intersection at Wisconsin Avenue and 68th Street. "While the intersection is closed, the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and 70th Street is anticipated to be open to north and south traffic," the City of Wauwatosa announcement indicates, reaffirming continued access for nearby residents despite the construction maelstrom.
Later in the timeline, Phase 3 will shift the focus to 70th Street, which will become inaccessible for construction from Wisconsin Avenue to Bluemound Road, although, local access will again be maintained. The project depends on the weather, but the City of Wauwatosa expects to finish it by late October 2025, providing a better road to the public before winter arrives.
