Motorists and Saginaw County residents, mark your calendars for some inconvenience on the horizon. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced a major closure of southbound I-75, including the Zilwaukee Bridge, slated to start on April 14 and anticipated to run through June 27 for a series of maintenance works, as reported by MDOT. The closure, affecting the stretch from Kochville to Wadsworth Road, is part of a $2.9 million investment aimed at improving and extending the life of the infrastructure with repairs and sealing efforts.
During this period, southbound I-75 will be rerouted to southbound I-675, providing a detour around the bridge from the I-675 junction north of Kochville Road to just south of Wadsworth Road. With the southbound I-75 ramp to Adams Street and the corresponding ramp to southbound I-75 being closed, traffic will be detoured via Tittabawassee Road (Exit 6) and Adams Street—a detour route that seeks to minimize interruption, as reported by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Stage 1 of the maintenance is set to be completed by June 27, with Stage 2—addressing the northbound lanes—beginning on July 14. Detours for this phase will be shared before the start. As the northbound I-675 ramp to southbound I-75 closes, traffic will be rerouted via M-84 (Exit 160) and southbound I-675 to meet back with I-75. This part of the work is a necessary safety measure to protect crews and motorists, which MDOT emphasized as they deemed the full closure of the southbound lanes necessary for the safest work environment.
