An 18-year-old man was shot and wounded near the base of the Brooklyn Bridge in the Dumbo area of Brooklyn, according to reports from local law enforcement. The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. yesterday, as stated by the NYPD and reported by Gothamist. The young man, whose identity has not yet been released, suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was subsequently transported to Bellevue Hospital where he remains in stable condition.

As the suspect remains at large, described as wearing a gray hoodie per the police report, the investigation continues into whether there was any prior relationship between the assailant and the victim or a potential motive for the shooting. This shooting is the first recorded incident in the NYPD's 84th Precinct for the year, following a notably low incidence of gun violence last year, with only one shooting reported in 2024, as indicated by ABC7NY. A witness, Imani Beck, described the chaotic scene, saying, "I had noticed a guy, he was right there, he had a gun, he had it out and he was shooting. Like he shot three times." Beck recounted.

"It went from everyone relaxing trying to get to the end of the street to panicking," Beck told ABC7NY. "You heard a bunch of people screaming and what not. They just ran. Everyone ran, I ran for my life and I don't run." The shooter, described by Beck as wearing all black and a mask, quickly fled the scene after the incident, with their whereabouts currently unknown.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue to search for the suspect.
