On a usually quiet street in Central Islip, chaos ensued earlier this month when a man allegedly lost control of his vehicle, sending it barreling through a residential backyard. According to CBS News New York, the driver has been identified as 26-year-old Eric Jordan, who was arrested last Friday on charges related to leaving the scene after causing property damage. Suffolk County Police reported the incident happened on East Chestnut Street, captured on a home surveillance video.
As reported by CBS News New York, the video shows the vehicle striking a curb and crashing through a fence, followed by a rollover that damaged another fence surrounding an in-ground swimming pool. After the crash came to a stop just short of the pool, the driver was seen retrieving a jacket before leaving the scene with others from an arriving vehicle, all while the homeowner's family remained inside, unaware of the events unfolding outside.
The News 12 Long Island stated that the suspect, hailing from Brentwood, ultimately faced apprehension five days after the incident. Eric Jordan is now scheduled for an arraignment on April 17. No injuries were reported, but the family's property suffered significant damage.
Leaking fluids from the wreck—oils and gas—necessitated a pool cleanup, according to the homeowner who told CBS News New York, "the pool deck and fencing were destroyed."
