Early Sunday morning, violence erupted in downtown Los Angeles resulting in the death of a man following a "gun battle." KTLA reported that the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the incident near 6th and San Pedro streets around 4:30 a.m. Officers found a male victim, reported to be in his mid-sixties, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds—including injuries to his face—who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not yet released the name of the deceased, awaiting the tragic notification to his family, as gunfire rattled the early morning silence, and residents were woken by the sound of shots. As of yet, the suspect remains unidentified, and authorities are still investigating whether the shooting was gang-related, with no suspect description immediately available according to FOX LA.
The Los Angeles Police Department has issued a traffic advisory, alerting the public through LAPD Central Division X Post, of expected delays between 5th St and 6th St on San Pedro due to the ongoing investigation. The LAPD has also encouraged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact Central Bureau Homicide or to report anonymously via LACRIMESTOPPERS.org.
