A tragic dispute near a northeast Houston hospital has ended in the shooting death of a man, believed to be in his late 30s, following an altercation with his pregnant wife's relatives. The incident occurred late Tuesday night on the 5400 block of Kelley Street, just a block away from Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital. An argument ensued over concerns that the wife's family might inform police about the man's possible outstanding warrants, prompting the couple to leave the hospital on foot. As by their departure, the wife's grandmother made an attempt to get her granddaughter to leave with her in a white car. According to the statement obtained by FOX26 Houston, the man's wife initially entered the vehicle but reconsidered when her husband was denied access, leading to her attempting to exit the car.
After the argument, the wife’s uncle arrived at the scene and shot the man in the torso, killing him. Houston police say the suspect and other family members stayed at the location and are cooperating with the investigation. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering statements. No names have been released, and no arrests have been made yet, as reported by FOX26 Houston.
Lt. Willkens of the Houston Police Department confirmed that the couple had been together for several years, with four children and a fifth on the way. The children are staying with the wife’s mother, while the couple had been living at a homeless shelter and working to find stable housing, as per FOX26 Houston. It is still unclear whether the uncle will face charges as the investigation continues.
