Yesterday morning, a 56-year-old man was killed by a No. 2 train at the Times Square-42nd Street station. The incident caused considerable subway disruptions before order was gradually restored, as detailed by ABC7NY.
At approximately 11:04 a.m., the man, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, tragically lost his footing and fell onto the tracks while moving between the cars of the downtown express train, his attempts at bridging the steel behemoths ending in an instantaneous and fatal encounter, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, as per NY Daily News.
As the investigation unfolded, the station platforms filled with confused and concerned commuters. Trains on the Nos. 1, 2, and 3 lines were diverted from their usual routes, bypassing Times Square while law enforcement and emergency personnel attended to the scene above the tracks. It wasn't until around 12:50 p.m. that normal service resumed. The MTA confirmed that after the disruption, which caused packed trains and stranded riders, full service was restored following hours of adjustments and clearing the area, ABC7NY reports.
