A tragic occurrence on the southbound 5 Freeway near Balboa Boulevard in Sylmar unfolded just before the top of the 3 o'clock hour yesterday, as reported by ABC7 Los Angeles. A man was struck by a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, leading to several closed lanes and significant traffic delays.
Details surrounding the incident remain sparse, however, the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed the fatality, noting that the mishap was recorded in a distressing call to 9-1-1 received at 2:59PM. Commuters in the Valley were advised by fire officials to consider alternative routes as the aftermath of the incident worked its way through the gears of an already overburdened traffic system.
The Los Angeles Fire Department directed all media inquiries to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Log 1232 and the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner's office for further investigation into the matter.
