Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating a homicide case after a man was found deceased in a vehicle during a routine traffic stop by a Sumter County deputy. The incident unfolded near the intersection of County Road 673 and US-301, as reported by the WESH. A BOLO (Be On the Look Out) alert that was issued earlier for a Wildwood homicide investigation ultimately led to the discovery of the vehicle and the body inside.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office-Florida's social media post, detectives and the Forensics Unit are actively assisting in the investigation, with efforts ongoing, and the Wildwood Police Department is spearheading the homicide case. Deputies are also involved in a search for a black male who was reportedly seen heading toward the woods near the location of the traffic stop.
The office asked the public to avoid approaching the sought-after individual whose connection to the homicide is not yet known. It further advised that anyone who spots this person should contact 911 immediately, providing any sightings or information that might be pertinent to the case.
The identity of the deceased man and the details of his death are not yet known. However, the Wildwood Police Department and Sumter County Sheriff's Office work together to investigate the situation. The Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
