A fatal shooting incident rocked a Garland apartment complex last Friday evening, as reported by the Garland Police Department. Officers rushed to the 1300 block of West Kingsley Road, called to the scene just before 6:30 PM, where they found one man dead and a woman critically injured from gunshot wounds.
Caught in the aftermath of the shooting, the injured female was rushed to a hospital, where she underwent surgery and continues battling for her life in the ICU. The deceased male, present when police arrived, was identified as 20-year-old Angel Vargas-Martinez. It was apparent from the onset that the wounds Vargas-Martinez succumbed to were self-inflicted.
Further investigation by authorities uncovered a connection between Vargas-Martinez and the female victim's family. According to initial reports from Garland Police Department, Vargas-Martinez "entered the female’s apartment and shot her before turning the weapon on himself."
The case appears to involve domestic violence, but the exact motive is still being investigated. Garland Police are working to piece together what led to this tragedy, where one young life was lost and another is fighting for survival.
