A delivery worker in Manhattan endured a vicious attack when he tried to prevent his bicycle from being stolen during an Upper West Side robbery attempt, said police. The incident, which left the 34-year-old man with a screwdriver wound to his back, occurred near West End Avenue, between 61st and 62nd Streets, at around 10:20 p.m. this past Wednesday.
The victim, who had just completed a delivery, confronted two men who were allegedly trying to take his bike. According to the NY Daily News, during their attempt to snatch his backpack as well as his bicycle, one suspect pulled out a screwdriver and "jammed it into his back." The assailants fled southbound on West End Avenue, with no arrests made as of yet.
Emergency Medical Services transported the wounded deliveryman to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital. As per the New York Post, he was reported to be in stable condition following the attack. The ongoing investigation has so far not led to the capture of the two men responsible for the crime, who, as of last night, remained at large.
The NYPD continues to investigate the case, gathering evidence and seeking any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the stabbing. The authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the ongoing inquiry.
