Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. has announced the indictment of 23-year-old Christian Millet for the particularly disturbing murder and dismemberment of his step-grandfather, 65-year-old Edwin Echevarria, in February 2025. In the indictment detailed by court documents, Millet is facing charges of second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse. The gruesome details of the crime involve Millet stabbing Echevarria multiple times and dismembering the body before disposing of the remains in the East River.

According to the information provided by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, D.A. Bragg stated, "Christian Millet allegedly committed a shocking and brutal murder, and my thoughts are with Mr. Echevarria’s loved ones." The relationship between Millet and Echevarria was strained by years of arguments, with Millet being the grandson of Echevarria's ex-girlfriend, and both periodically lived with the victim in his Lower East Side apartment.

On February 2, the conflict culminated when Millet reportedly attacked Echevarria with a homemade ice pick during a phone call, following up the assault by stomping and kicking him in the head and stabbing him 13 times in the torso. Wrapping up in bags, Millet cut Echevarria into pieces using a kitchen knife and disposed of the body parts in the East River over several days. A bag containing Echevarria's torso was discovered on February 5, leading to Millet's arrest one week later.

Police found incriminating evidence in the apartment, including a screwdriver and towels soaked with the victim's blood. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant D.A. Kavita Bovell and Assistant D.A. James Waller, under the oversight of Assistant D.A. Jessica Lynn and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo. NYPD detectives from various units, including Frank DeFranco, Yeoman Castro, Oscar Diaz, and Anthony Ahwal, were acknowledged by D.A. Bragg for their quick and diligent work in connecting the facts of this challenging case.
