The Galveston County Sheriff's Office is currently engaged in an ongoing manhunt for a suspect identified as 36-year-old Sylvester Thompson, who reportedly escaped while being transported to jail. According to a post by KHOU, the incident took place this morning and authorities are focusing their search efforts in the vicinity of the Gulf Freeway and FM 519.
Initially taken into custody for evading arrest, Thompson is said to have been handcuffed at the time of his escape and is presumed to still be restrained by them. In a subsequent report obtained by FOX 26 Houston, it was revealed that Thompson is not only wanted for the initial charge of evading arrest, but also faces additional charges including assault on a peace officer, escape from custody, and attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer.
Thompson was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and tan pants. No additional information about the escape has been provided.
