The late Nipsey Hussle's entrepreneurial spirit continues to foster community and economic growth in Los Angeles with the opening of Marathon Burger on Saturday. Located at 7507 Melrose Ave, the grand opening ceremony starts at noon and promises a vibrant celebration. Sam "Blacc Sam" Asghedom, Hussle’s brother, will be proudly manning the grill, serving the popular Marathon Burger with wagyu beef, reports CBS News.
In addition to providing the first 100 guests with free food, the event will feature live DJs, and raffles conducted every hour, and the local excitement usually comes with a new dining establishment. Initially launched as a pop-up back in October 2024, the burger spot is now fully renovated to welcome diners into its permanent space as per the Marathon Burger Instagram post. According to Marathon Burger's social media announcement, the official grand opening is set to be a memorable day for the community.
Marathon Burger’s establishment not only enriches the Los Angeles food scene but also carves a path for the realization of Hussle's comprehensive vision for The Marathon brand. "I think Marathon brand, created by Hussle, was kind of like to inspire and to just motivate, and it just means to keep going," Asghedom told CBS News. "It's not a race, it's a pace, do it on your own." This endeavor's opening builds on the foundation laid by Hussle in music, fashion, entertainment, and now food/hospitality.
The legacy of the Grammy-nominated artist, who was tragically killed on March 31, 2019, continues strong with this latest venture. The Marathon team has echoed the sentiment of Hussle's forward-thinking strategies, stating to Billboard, "When Nipsey birthed The Marathon (Brand), launching it with The Marathon mixtape in 2010, the goal was always to enterprise this into a full lifestyle brand." March also has the Neighborhood Nip Foundation in collaboration as a charity partner with the Los Angeles Marathon, where both Marathon Burger and The Marathon Clothing are sponsoring runners for the event on March 16.
