In the early hours of Friday, a devastating fire swept through a block of rowhomes on North Fulton Avenue in West Baltimore, displacing residents and destroying businesses. WBAL-TV reported the fire began around 3:40 a.m., escalating quickly to a four-alarm blaze that consumed more than a dozen homes, a church, and several businesses, including the Famous Food Mart and Ruthie's Place barber shop.
Despite efforts by the Baltimore City Fire Department, the flames, fueled by strong winds, proved formidable. Officials indicated to FOX Baltimore that the inferno originated in a vacant building before it ravaged adjoining structures. The fire department managed to subdue the flames by 6:40 a.m., containing what could have resulted in more extensive damage.
Several affected buildings, including the site where the fire erupted, were reported to be occupied at the time, leading to emergency relocation efforts for eight individuals. The Baltimore Office of Emergency Management has assisted those uprooted from their homes. The Red Cross and Baltimore City Emergency Management are providing additional support for residents who face the daunting reality of rebuilding their lives amid the ashes of this tragedy.
