As Maui residents prepare to honor the legacy of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana'ole tomorrow, March 26, county officials have announced a series of closures and service modifications in recognition of Prince Kūhiō Day. An official statement obtained by Maui County details these changes, which include the shuttering of all County of Maui offices, pools, and various landfills.

Trash pickup and Maui Bus service will continue as usual on the holiday. Celebrated tomorrow, the holiday honors the Hawaiian prince born in 1871, who later served as a U.S. Congress delegate and helped introduce the first Hawaiʻi statehood bill in 1919. County facilities, including the Lahaina Resource Center and Recovery Permit Center in Kahului, will be closed, as well as the landfills in Hāna, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi.

Those needing to dispose of waste are advised by the county to make a note of the modified service hours affecting the Central Maui Landfill and Maui EKO Compost, which will operate from 6 a.m. to noon. Additionally, the Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Convenience Center will welcome drop-offs between 8 a.m. and noon. This condensed schedule is designed to accommodate the holiday while still providing crucial services to the community.

On Thursday, March 27, everything returns to normal. The County of Maui has announced that all county offices and services will resume their regular hours after the one-day break.
