The Maui Police Department is stepping up to address the needs of Maui’s houseless community through its Mobile Medical Education Unit (MMEU). On Monday, the MMEU was located at Kalama Park in Kihei, offering a suite of essential services including mental health assistance, food stamps, non-critical wound care, and clothing provisions, according to the department's social media post.

The initiative, supported by local organizations, aims to provide essential support and assistance. Aloha House contributed by distributing information on substance use and mental health services to 14 individuals. The Department of Education provided not only educational resources but also food, hygiene kits, hats, shoes, sunscreen, and other personal care items. Goodwill Maui helped by informing community members about the free services available to them.

The Maui AIDS Foundation contributed to the community by distributing food and hygiene kits, as well as providing information on medical QUEST and free STD testing. According to a Facebook post from the Maui Police Department, the unit will continue to serve the community at Kalama Park through March and April, operating from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
