Shopping in Clarkston, Oakland County is about to get a fresh addition with Meijer announcing the grand opening of its new neighborhood market, Independence Market, slated for April 30. ClickOnDetroit reports that the store, poised at 5820 Waldon Road, near the busy junction of Sashabaw Road and I-75, will span across 50,000 square feet, offering a cozy shopping encounter with a mix of local and national products.
In the words of the store director, Robert Lajcaj, "Independence Market is committed to serving our new neighbors with value and convenience that makes it easy to get in and out quickly," a sentiment echoed in a Detroit Free Press article. The Detroit Free Press details that the market aims to be not only a grocery stop but a full-service location with offerings including a floral and gift shop, health and beauty products and pet supplies; not to mention featuring a café space serving up coffee and Latin street food from local favorite Honcho.
Approximately 80 jobs are being created by this new market, offering competitive wages, health benefits, and a 401(k) matching program. MLive's coverage highlights that Independence Market is following the trend set by other Meijer neighborhood markets like the ones in Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Detroit, shrinking the big-box model to a more intimate format while still ensuring a variety of products including fresh meats, produce, and a bakery.
In addition to regular grocery options, the new market is said to stock thousands of local products, such as Shaded Bloom Coffee Roasters, skincare from Allow Nourishment, and ice cream from Cook's Dairy Farm—local brands that give the market a community-centric edge. Not to mention, its shelves will also carry Meijer's own brand products alongside these local offerings, according to the Detroit Free Press. Shoppers can visit Independence Market daily between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., adding a new layer to the local retail landscape in this Michigan community.
