Mentor Community Recreation Center to Enhance Facilities with New Basketball Court and Tennis UpgradesSource: City of Mentor

Basketball and tennis enthusiasts in Mentor have a reason to cheer – their rec center is about to get a little swankier. The Mentor Community Recreation Center is plumping up its sports offerings by installing an additional indoor basketball court and pimping out its tennis courts with upgrades, including a shiny new reflective ceiling liner system meant to better the lighting and vibe on the courts.

This is where basketball fans might want to slowly and emphatically start clapping their hands. Adding these courts is expected to seriously boost programming opportunities, which means more time to shoot hoops, more leagues to join, and probably a good reason to finally decide to improve your dribbling skills. But with the good comes a little bit of a timeout for tennis players. Tennis Court 1 is getting the boot to make way for the new b-ball courts, which means less space to serve and volley – at least for a brief spell.

"We are excited about these upgrades and believe the additional basketball court will serve many of our members, while the improvements to the tennis courts will elevate the experience for our tennis players," Mentor Community Recreation Center Facility Manager Nick Standing told City of Mentor. He's putting on the game face and ready to juggle a little construction mayhem for the promise of a better sports sanctuary.

If you're wondering when all this hoopla will kick off, mark your calendars. Tennis Court 1 gets its walking papers starting Monday, March 31, when Tennis Court 2 is forced to sit on the sidelines. This duo of courts will stay under wraps until the new basketball court is completed. Fingers crossed without any overtime, we're told ballers can hit the new hardwood beginning Monday, April 7, with the grand unveiling slated for April 14. And for those waiting eagerly to test out the new tennis digs, the ceiling is getting its glow-up come late spring.
