Residents and employees in Mentor will soon enjoy improved accessibility along Tyler Boulevard, a key industrial artery in the city. According to the City of Mentor's official website, a stretch of sidewalk was added to facilitate easier and safer travel in the manufacturing hub. The project, bringing sidewalks to the south side of Tyler Boulevard between Heisley Road and Hopkins Road, was announced by City Manager Kenneth J. Filipiak during his annual State of the City address.
Introduced to serve the bustling manufacturing corridor, Laketran's new route was launched in 2019, and now, after serving two wheels, legs will follow. Walking along this road, workers and patrons will soon find just over a mile of fresh concrete underfoot by the year's end, as outlined in recent announcements from city officials.
Tyler Boulevard stands as a critical channel in Mentor, boasting ten industrial boulevards with over 300 employers and accounting for about 7,500 jobs. This area is recognized for its density of manufacturing companies, ranking as the seventh largest in Ohio.
The sidewalk project, with a budget of $600,000, is partly funded by a generous Laketran grant of $416,000. While in the design stage now, the community anticipates its completion within the calendar year, supporting the local manufacturing workforce making their daily commutes—a fact that does not escape Laketran officials and city planners looking to enhance regional transportation infrastructure.
