Mesquite is set to commemorate its rich Western past with a sequence of rodeo-themed events on April 5th, promising a day filled with the nostalgic charm of cowboy culture. The city will kick things off bright and early at 10 a.m. with the 67th annual Rodeo Parade. According to information from the City of Mesquite's official announcement, this long-standing local tradition hearkens back to the days when rodeo owners would saddle up and beckon the town to the rodeo grounds.
This year's procession takes on the playful theme of "Stirrup Some Fun!" encouraging participants to deck out their floats and ensembles with Old Western flair. Pride will swell through the streets as Malik Jefferson, a Mesquite Poteet High School graduate and NFL veteran, leads the march as Grand Marshal. For those looking to be part of the parade, registration ends on April 4, with a $40 entry fee. Groups interested in bringing their livestock to the event can have their fee waived by reaching out to the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office.
Following the hoofbeats of the parade, the Mesquite Arena will throw open its doors to the World Senior Professional Bull Riders Bullriding Spring Fest from 12-2 p.m. Visitors are promised a rush of adrenaline as riders take on the challenge of taming untamed bulls. Kids' tickets cost $10, while adults are set back $20.
Simultaneously, the Downtown Mesquite Farmers Market will usher in its opening day at Front Street Station. Running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the market will feature a plethora of local goods, from handmade artisan products to fresh, locally sourced produce. Not only will patrons find high-quality goods, but they can also indulge in various food options and enjoy live musical performances, enhancing the festive experience.
