The Miami Dolphins are strengthening their secondary by signing cornerback Artie Burns, a former University of Miami star and local high school standout, a source confirmed Monday. Burns, who will turn 30 on May 1, is entering his ninth NFL season, as reported by Local 10.
Burns returns to Miami after a career that saw him drafted in the first round and later transition into a special teams role. He previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, and Seattle Seahawks, with his last stint including 21 game appearances over three seasons but only one start. His Pro Football Focus grade of 88.6 showed his ability to perform, despite limited snap, according to TC Palm.
Burns brings a strong record to the Dolphins, including 199 tackles, 38 pass deflections, and four interceptions. His interceptions all came within his first two seasons.
The signing of Artie Burns aims to add depth and create competition among the Dolphins’ cornerbacks, including Cam Smith, Kader Kohou, and Storm Duck. This move is expected to provide the team with more options and potential injury insurance.
