Michigan State Police are currently on the lookout for a suspect following reports of gunfire that targeted two vehicles on the Detroit-area freeway, I-96, yesterday morning. The incident was first reported at approximately 1:45 a.m. along eastbound I-96 at the Davison, according to Audacy. In the wake of the shooting, both directions of the freeway were closed as the search for evidence was conducted, but no suspect has been apprehended as of yet.

Details of the incident were shared with local precincts by two drivers who reported that their cars were struck by gunfire while traveling on the freeway. One vehicle was hit by a single bullet while the other sustained several rounds of damage. ClickOnDetroit reports officers received 911 calls from drivers shortly after the shooting occurred. No injuries have been reported in connection with this incident.

The investigation, still in progress, has led detectives to believe that one of the impacted drivers was the specific target of the shooting; the other driver's vehicle was caught in the crossfire and hit by what is believed to be a stray bullet. "Detectives have determined that one of the drivers was the intended target of this shooting and the second driver was an innocent bystander and their vehicle was struck by a stray bullet," said MSP First Lt Mike Shaw in a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit.

Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation and lead to the apprehension of the suspect. The police have not yet identified a suspect vehicle and are calling for witnesses to contact the Michigan State Police via the tip lines at 1-855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
